Car Key Cutting & Programming FAQs

  • 1. Can you make a spare car key for my car?

We can cut and program spare keys for many makes and models. Use the vehicle checker above for a quick first indication, then bring your working key and vehicle into the shop so we can confirm the correct option.

  • 2. Do I need to bring the car and my working key?

For a new programmed key, yes. Please bring the vehicle and every working key you want to keep so we can identify the correct setup, cut the key and complete any programming or testing required.

  • 3. Can I get a cheaper spare without remote buttons?

On some vehicles, yes. A non-button spare can cost less than another full remote while still unlocking and starting the vehicle. We’ll tell you if that option is available for your car.

  • 4. Can you make remote and smart car keys?

We can supply and program remote and smart keys for many vehicles. Coverage varies by make, model, year and key system, so use the checker above or bring the vehicle and working key into the shop for confirmation.

  • 5. How long does a spare car key take?

It depends on the vehicle and key type. Some are relatively straightforward while others need additional programming or security steps. We’ll explain the likely time before any work is started.

  • 6. Can you repair or refurbish my existing car key?

Yes. If the electronics are still usable, we may be able to replace a worn case or blade rather than replace the complete key. We’ll check the key first and advise what makes sense.

  • 7. Can you replace my car key battery?

Yes. We replace car key batteries and can check the key at the same time. Most straightforward battery replacements are completed in minutes.

You Don’t Always Need Another Full Remote

Already have one working remote? On many vehicles, a simpler programmed non-button key can be a lower-cost way to keep a useful spare. It won’t operate the remote central locking, but where supported it can still unlock and start the vehicle.

If your existing key is worn or faulty, repair, refurbishment or battery replacement may also be a better option than replacing it completely. We’ll explain what’s available before you decide.

Quick Notes

  • If your key is very worn or corroded we’ll recommend refurbishing to protect the electronics and improve longevity.

  • Some vehicles require vehicle presence or specific security steps — if so we’ll explain the process and timing before work starts.
